My main reason and goal for signing up for the Peaks Coaching Group Nutrition Program with Anne Guzman was to drop a few stubborn pounds and to reduce the frequency and likelihood of getting dropped during the intense group rides here in the Appalachian foothills of Pennsylvania.  What I received was a healthy and gradual 40 pound weight loss (from 200 lbs. to 160 lbs. on my 5’10” farm-boy frame) while experiencing major performance enhancement and superior recovery times after extremely taxing workouts.

I receive much more gratification and satisfaction from eating proper, appropriate foods under Anne’s guidance and direction, than when I ate whatever I wanted.  Growing up in Central PA is a junk food lover’s dream.  This fact, combined with being told by my early distance running coach that I could eat basically anything I wanted because of the amount of exercise I do (not good advice in hindsight), resulted in eating behavior and lifestyle choices that left me trapped in my “pudgy purgatory”.

Anne evaluated my diet and exercise over three days, thoroughly discussed all options, and established a nutrition plan that was easy to follow and stick with it.  She provided recipes and food choices that not only gave my body the optimal fuel it needed, but also satisfied my appetite with significantly fewer calories.  Anne not only taught me what to eat, but also how to time meals for maximum performance and benefit.  My physical transformation was nothing short of amazing.  I feel like Anne engineered the rebuilding of my body from the inside-out.  I used to wear XL shirts, now I wear medium.  My waist size reduced from 36″ to 32″.  And this was a steady, gradual change over a 4 month period.  My energy level and positivity have increased substantially.

I turned 40 this year.  Anne and the PCG Team helped me achieve several of my “milestone goals”.  Although I do not race, I earned a seventh place finish at a local Gran Fondo Metric Century that featured two high profile professional cyclists.  Last year (at 200 lbs. with poor nutrition, I was dropped from the main group with ten miles to go and eked out a top thirty finish).  The highlight of the year was achieving a Boston Qualifier Finish in November, despite minimal marathon training.  Prior to this year, my best marathon finish was just under 3:49. I was able to successfully complete 3 marathons over a four week period, with improvement each time, combined with ridiculously smooth recovery compared to my previous nineteen marathon finishes.  With my Boston Qualifier Finish, I was 25th overall and won my age group with a sub 3:15 time.

Anne has helped me build a new foundation that offers so much potential and opportunity for next season and beyond.  While a definite and serious commitment is required on behalf of the athlete, anyone who follows Anne’s guidance will greatly benefit from it.
